REI is a company known for its durable and fashionable outdoor gear. Ranging from thermal coats to tents, REI has it all. There is a sense environmental respect when walking into an REI store or even just browsing its website. REI and I share a passion and respect for the outdoors and what the opportunity it brings. I love to go camping, hiking, kayaking you name it and REI has built its brand to support and encourage people to do activities like these. Staying active usually goes hand and hand with staying healthy, which is another interest both REI and I have in common. All of REI’s products are meant to help people have the best experience with nature as they can so that they might be a little more aware about their surroundings.
REI has hosted over 400 volunteer groups and supports environmental conservation. I have had my share volunteering my time to help the environment, including cutting down invasive plants that were suffocating an endangered tree, picking up trash along Chicago’s beaches, and helping spread awareness about water conservation in my school and community. Just an example of how this company is dedicated to sustainability and conversation is the catalog. REI prints its catalogs on recycled paper. So every holiday or big sale, they are not wasting more trees for advertising, they are reusing paper. I think that REI’s products and values mirror my own, and if I were to pick a brand that closely mirrors my ideals, it would be REI.
